I’m Cassie, and I’m a crazy-artist-mother-wife-lady (not necessarily in order of importance) with the gift of ADHD and I want to share it with the world.
I grew up in Dorchester MA – but mostly all over the place though – full of energy and curiosity from an early age. I got into a lot of trouble in school, and my mother wanted answers. I got diagnosed with ADHD at 7 years old, and have taken medications most of my life since. But now, I am medication free and trying to teach myself how to be a functioning adult. It is most definitely an uphill battle, but I am hear to show that it can be done, and that we are all resilient.
I have struggled with managing my ADHD for as long as I can remember. I have tried this drug, and that one, cognitive behavioral therapy, natural treatments and nothing seems to help as much as writing does. So, I use writing as an expressive art to get my voice out there and be heard. It really helps to be heard when my whole life I have been shut down constantly for “having too much energy,” and “being too much to handle.”
I have been off of ADHD medication for a long while, and I’d like to say that I’m doing a whole lot better, but progress is not linear, so it is hard to tell. One day I am on cloud nine with euphoria, and the next I am down in the self-pity dumps.
All is well! Because I have freedom of expression, through words and art, which are the best therapies of all.
Join me on this journey, for I have a lot to say, and we all have a lot to learn.
